And this is why the “endless threaded reblog discussion” problem will never be solved.

The new photo reply feature shows an add step in the direction of fixing that (except it’s only allowing photo replies instead of text replies right now).  Combined with answers (if there wasn’t a character limit), there’s somewhat of a reply system built into Tumblr.

I’ve never really been bothered by the threaded discussions (except they look odd on your blog if people aren’t familiar with Tumblr).  I guess the larger benefit of the reblog threaded method is that it leads to more people joining in as it hits their dashboards for each person that does a reblog (if they follow those subsequent people).  Whereas with answers/photo replies or if they made a separate commenting system, you wouldn’t see them unless you expand the notes.
